Overview
The Municipal Act, 2001 authorizes municipalities to establish codes of conduct for members of Council and local boards and to appoint an Integrity Commissioner. On November 18, 2022, By-law 2022-45 was passed appointing Aird & Berlis LLP as the Integrity Commissioner for the Township of The Archipelago
The Integrity Commissioner reports to Council and is responsible for performing in an independent manner the functions assigned by the municipality to promote accountability and transparency in municipal governance. To ensure that the Code of Conduct is followed, the Integrity Commissioner is responsible for:
- Providing information to Council and Committee members as to their obligations under the Code.
- Conducting investigations and provide reports regarding alleged breaches of the Code.
- Providing an annual report to Council on the activities of the Integrity Commissioner.
Any individual who has reasonable grounds to believe that a Member of Council has breached a provision of the Code, may file a complaint with the Town’s Integrity Commissioner:
